PAGAIA AZZURRA SK2 kayak course
The PAGAIA AZZURRA SK2 kayak course is an intermediate course to learn how to conduct a kayak safely in shallow water and is thought for those who already have experience in kayaking but want to perfect the technique in most demanding marine weather conditions. Lessons also include an introduction to environmental knowledge (coastal habitats, Parks and Marine Protected Areas), thus giving the sensation of an excursion experience. With the National Pagaia Azzurra Level 2 certification, recognized by the EPP (Euro Paddle Pass), you will acquire knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to maneuver a sea kayak while being part of a guided group during a navigation lasting at least 2 hours in conditions up to light breeze (Beaufort force 2) and slightly rough sea (Sea State 2).
DESCRIPTION
The course consists of a theoretical part, and a practical part in water. Both the course and the exam is held by the federal sea kayak instructor Marco Garbetta.

REQUIREMENTS
- course for beginners
- ability to swim for 25 meters with the complete kayak clothing and have paddled with different models of kayak or canoe in at least 2 different places (river, lake, sea)
COURSE
In the course you learn the most important fundamentals of the technique that are:
INDIVIDUAL CAPABILITIES
- Lift and transport kayaks
- launching and landing in different scenarios
- Bow and side landing
- Forward stroke
- Turns, stop, paddling backwards
- Stern rudder
- Forward and backward sweep stroke – 360° turn
- T draw, scull draw, hanging draw
- Low brace, headway low support
- Secure the kayak on a rack or on a road cart
SAFETY NAVIGATION CAPABILITIES
- Wet exit
- Self rescue and assisted rescue
- Traditional assisted rescue

FINAL TEST
After the course the student can support with the federal sea kayak instructor Marco Garbetta a theoretical and practical examination which, if passed, allows him to receive the Sea Kayak 2 certification, compliant with the European EPP standard (Euro Paddle Pass) and recognized in the countries members (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden) for the rental of equipment or to qualify for organized activities. The cost to be paid by the candidate for certification, for the card and for sending them to Italy is 20 euros.
EPP
The Pagaia Azzurra certification is recognized by the EPP (Euro Paddle Pass). The EPP allows:
- perform a certification according to a common and recognized standard in the EPP member countries (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden);
- complete their training, in their own discipline, in any of the countries participating in the EPP;
- continue their training started abroad in Italy;
- rent canoes or kayaks in Italian and European centers that are increasingly rented exclusively for a recognized national certification;
- start a training program with a progressive growth, necessary to access the FICK Technician training program.

The course for beginners is born from the need to teach the fundamentals of sea kayaking to those who have never been in kayaks or to those who want to improve their skills to make them suitable for the typical distance of sea kayak tours. The course takes place at the same time as our tours.

The Pagaia Azzurra courses are the official sea kayak courses of the Italian Canoe and Kayak Federation. The Sea Kayak 1 course represents the basis for those who want to learn how to safely operate a sea kayak.
