PLACES WE WILL VISIT ON THE POLIGNANO KAYAK TOUR
Polignano a Mare is one of those city to be seen at least once in a lifetime. But what to see in Polignano a Mare and above all how to see it in one day? Looking at the photographs, you want to be there already. The most beautiful postcard images always portray the sea. And so it is! The best known and most photographed places in the city are Lama Monachile, the only beach in Polignano, and the sea caves. All these places can be explored by kayak by taking a trip along the high rocky coast on which Polignano stands.
LAMA MONACHILE
It is one of the most picturesque and best-known places in Polignano a Mare, famous above all for the inlet between the high rocky walls overlooking the sea. We are talking about Lama Monachile, located right at the entrance of the village and a stone’s throw from the historic center, the bed of an ancient stream, now dried up, which flowed into the sea.
The lama can be seen well from a 15-meter high bridge built by the Bourbons in the 1800s. Going along it, one cannot help leaning to immortalize this breathtaking view. Coming down from the bridge, using the steps that connect it to the bay below, we find ourselves inside the lama. The path to the sea, paved with white pebbles, leads us to the famous Lama Monachile. The mouth of the blade is represented by a sandy and pebbly beach, framed by the monumental cliff that stands out in the reflection of the crystal clear waters. It is here that the ancient river that furrowed these rocks flowed.
