Marco Garbetta
Who I am
I am from Puglia, in the province of Bari. My passion for kayaking was born in the summer of 2011. I decided to visit the coast of the Gulf of Policastro staying in a campsite near Castrocucco, but I had no idea how I could do it. After several internet searches I bought the Bic Ouassou, a small polyethylene sit on top kayak 240cm long and almost 80cm wide: a bathub rather than a canoe! At the campsite every morning I went down to the water with the canoe and stayed there until sunset, covering a maximum of 10 km. I could drop anchor and snorkel around my kayak. Or I dragged it with a rope tied at the waist and used it as a signal buoy during spearfishing. I ate the sandwiches prepared in the morning in the caves, away from the scorching sun. I had a freedom never felt! The first trips were a two-day trip to the Tremiti Islands and a tour of the islands of Ischia and Procida lasted 4 days. Salento circumnavigation
2012
On 2 August 2012, together with my girlfriend, also with a sit on top similar to mine, I left for the tour of Salento, from Monopoli to Pulsano , finished after 23 days and 364km covered.
Costa Smeralda and Maddalena Archipelago
2013
The following year, in the summer of 2013, I went on a long solo trek touring the entire Costa Smeralda and the Maddalena Archipelago in Sardinia, covering 304km in 19 days.
Corsica island circumnavigation
2014
In 2014 I bought my first sea kayak. During the first months of the year I prepared myself for the hardest and longest trek I had ever done until then: the kayak solo tour of Corsica ; completed on 11 August 2014, after 17 days and 665km covered.
Lower Ionian Greece islands circumnavigation
2015
In the summer of 2015 I organized and then carried out a solo trekking of the Ionian islands of Greece: Kefalonia, Ithaca, Meganisi, Lefkada and Zante . The trek ended on August 6, after 16 days and 600km covered.
Sardinia island circumnavigation
2016
In the summer of 2016 I organized and carried out the solo circumnavigation of Sardinia . The trek ended on August 24, after 26 days and around 920km covered.
Balearics islands circumnavigation
2018
In June 2018 I made the circumnavigation of the Balearic islands , accompanied in the tour of Majorca and Minorca by the kayaker friend Giacomo Della Gatta . The trek started in Palma de Mallorca and ended on June 25 in Ibiza, after 25 days and 720km covered.
Upper Ionian Greece and Diapontie islands circumnavigation
2019
In June 2019 I made the tour of Upper Ionian Greece (Corfu, Paxos and Antipaxos islands) and the Diapontie archipelago together with the kayaker friends Domenico Leone and Michele Esposito. The trek ended on June 8, after 10 days and 330km covered.
Lower Albania
2023
In May 2023 I toured the southern coast of Albania, from Valona to Igoumenitsa together with kayaker friends Domenico Leone, Michele Esposito and Duilio Polidori. The trek ended after 7 days and approximately 197km covered.
